Artist's Description
A boat speeds by a few of the Stiltsville homes in the afternoon. These are four (a second building is visible directly behind the colorful A-Frame house on the left) of the remaining seven homes in Stiltsville, a small community of structures just south of Biscayne Key and Miami in Biscayne National Park, part of Biscayne Bay. There were 27 buildings at one time but fires and hurricanes have destroyed many of them. The remaining houses are preserved by the Stiltsville Trust which manages them in agreement with Biscayne National Park. The two smokestacks in the background are part of the Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station.
About Ed Gleichman
I've been a photographer most of my life, starting very young with a Kodak Instamatic camera. There were a few others over some years and in my mid-twenties a Canon EOS 630 (film camera) which I used extensively. Then I quit for a while. Can't say I know why, life happens. Some years ago I decided I would commit to what I knew had long been an important part of my life. It has been good in many ways, mostly because it lets me see the world around me as a place to enjoy and share. There is much that goes on around us that is negative and depressing, to say the least. It lifts my spirits to find other views that show there is much to be grateful for and much that others might find inspiring although they might never get the chance to see...
