Description
The Country Club of Coral Gables was part of the original city plan as envisioned by George Merrick. Constructed in 1924, the Country Club and the Granada Golf Course, across the street, were designed to be integral to the the city's aspiration as the "Mediterranean Riviera" and were used by Merrick to entertain. The tower sits above the main entrance of this Mediterranean Style gem, which set the tone for Coral Gables architecture.
Coral Gables was envisioned by George Merrick to be the "Mediterranean Riviera" and draw the wealthy and prominent in the 1920's.
See other examples of Coral Gables architecture at my Coral Gables gallery which includes the Alhambra Water Tower and the Country Club of Coral Gables, among others.
